Rep. Andy Ogles, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 5th district, used his social media platform on April 16, 2026, to address constituents and share his stance on immigration policy.
In a tweet posted at 2:24 p.m. UTC, Ogles invited residents of his district to participate in a public forum: “Don’t miss my telephone town hall TONIGHT at 6 PM (ct)! I am looking forward to connecting with great folks of Tennessee’s Fifth District. I hope you are able to join! https://t.co/aOdUkzP2jP”.
Later the same day, at 4:45 p.m. UTC, he expressed opposition to recent legislative developments regarding immigration: “I will not vote for the amnesty poison on the House floor.”
At 6:40 p.m. UTC, Ogles elaborated further on his position regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and outlined proposed legislative action: “TPS was created by Biden staffers. It was never lawful.
If Congress passes my ASSIMILATION Act, the amnesty betrayal that just passed on the House floor would become null and void.
It bars any Executive from reinterpreting immigration law and creating new programs.”
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a designation provided by the U.S. government allowing certain individuals from designated countries affected by ongoing armed conflict or environmental disasters to remain temporarily in the United States without fear of removal; it has been administered under both Democratic and Republican administrations since its inception in 1990.
