Rep. Andy Ogles, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 5th district, has been vocal on social media regarding recent legislative matters and political issues. Ogles, who succeeded Jim Cooper in 2023, is known for his firm stance on various policies.
On July 1, 2025, Rep. Ogles addressed the legislative process concerning the Senate’s version of a bill referred to as the OBBB. He stated that if the House does not pass this version, it would result in “legislative ping-pong,” but emphasized that this was intentional by design: “Yes. If the House doesn’t pass the Senate’s version of the OBBB, then it turns into legislative ping-pong. But that’s okay.” He further advocated for remaining in Washington D.C., saying: “Like I’ve been saying for weeks: let’s STAY IN DC and get it RIGHT for the American People.”
Later that day, he expressed strong opposition to environmental legislation known as the Green New Deal while supporting an alternative measure passed by the House. He remarked: “The Green New Deal needs to die.” He continued by highlighting what he perceives as critical victories brought about by a different piece of legislation from the House: “The House passed OBBB brings the critical wins, the Senate’s falls short.”
On July 2, 2025, Rep. Ogles voiced support for President Biden’s efforts to prevent certain changes in New York City akin to developments seen in Europe: “We stand with you, Mr. President! It’s in everyone’s interest to prevent New York City from turning into what Europe has become.”
Andy Ogles was born in Nashville and resides in Columbia; he holds degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and Western Kentucky University.
