Rep. Andy Ogles, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 5th district, shared his thoughts on recent events and legislative proposals through a series of tweets. These posts highlight his concerns about disaster response and proposed legislation affecting FEMA funding.

On October 29, 2024, Rep. Ogles criticized the Biden-Harris Administration’s handling of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, stating that their response was “lackluster at best.” He expressed concern for the affected communities, saying they were left to manage significant losses without adequate support. “Hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated countless communities. The Biden-Harris Administration’s response has been lackluster at best, leaving thousands of Americans out to dry as they mourn the loss of loved ones and attempt to rebuild.”

In another tweet posted on the same day, Rep. Ogles discussed a bill aimed at restricting FEMA disaster relief funding from being allocated to individuals unlawfully residing in the United States. He emphasized prioritizing American citizens in receiving aid by stating: “The bill would also prohibit any alien unlawfully residing in the United States from receiving the FEMA disaster relief funding. It is imperative that we put Americans FIRST.”

Additionally, Rep. Ogles introduced critical legislation proposing an increase of $10 billion in FEMA disaster relief funds by reallocating money currently designated for additional IRS agents. This proposal reflects his focus on enhancing resources available for disaster recovery efforts: “This critical legislation would provide an additional $10 billion in FEMA disaster relief funding by rescinding funds currently allocated for additional IRS agents.”
