Rep. Andy Ogles, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 5th district, has been vocal on social media about various issues affecting his constituents. In a series of tweets posted on May 15, 2025, he addressed topics ranging from healthcare to law enforcement and local governance.
In a tweet posted at 01:35:16 UTC, Rep. Ogles criticized the Medicaid system expanded under former President Obama. He stated, “Did you know the Obama-expanded Medicaid system prioritizes able-bodied adults over our seniors? That’s right — a 30-year-old who refuses to work and lounges around playing video games can get up to 90% of his healthcare covered by taxpayers.” He expressed concern that many seniors who have worked are being overlooked in favor of younger individuals.
Later that day, at 11:37:45 UTC, Ogles turned his attention to Nashville’s city government, which he accused of endangering local sheriffs through what he described as obstructionist actions. He remarked, “The obstructionist actions of Nashville’s city government are endangering local sheriffs. These brave officers aren’t just being vilified by radical city liberals who despise ICE—they’re now at risk of being targeted by Nashville’s so-called ‘community oversight board.’”
In another post made at 13:56:08 UTC, Ogles framed an ongoing political issue as a conflict between Tennesseans and Mayor O’Connell. He tweeted, ” This isn’t just a political disagreement—this is the people of Tennessee vs. Mayor O’Connell.” The congressman emphasized several points including protecting law enforcement, defending borders, achieving justice for victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens, and reclaiming Tennessee’s values.
Andy Ogles was born in Nashville in 1971 and resides in Columbia. A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and Western Kentucky University, he succeeded Jim Cooper in Congress in 2023.
