U.S. Representative Andy Ogles, who represents Tennessee’s 5th district, published a series of posts on July 17, 2025, highlighting his concerns about academic and political trends. Ogles’ tweets referenced historical and contemporary figures as well as internal policies at Belmont University.

In a post timestamped July 17, 2025, Ogles quoted: “Abolish private property.” —Karl Marx (c. 1848) —Zohran Mamdani (c. 2025). The tweet appeared to draw a parallel between the ideology of Karl Marx and statements attributed to Zohran Mamdani in the present day.

In another message posted moments later on July 17, 2025, Ogles simply tagged another account: @EndWokeness.

Later that day, Ogles addressed policies at Belmont University in a tweet labeled “BELMONT BOMBSHELL #2.” He stated: “My office just obtained an official document requiring all Belmont faculty to justify how any course proposals or revisions ‘include perspectives from diverse and/or historically underrepresented populations…’ This means every course at Belmont must”.

Andy Ogles has represented Tennessee’s 5th District in the U.S. Congress since replacing Jim Cooper in 2023. Born in Nashville in 1971 and currently residing in Columbia, Ogles holds degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and Western Kentucky University.

Belmont University is a private Christian university located in Nashville. In recent years, higher education institutions across the United States have implemented diversity requirements for curriculum development and faculty hiring practices.
