FOIA Request to The University of Tennessee Southern Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, SC Tennessee News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to The University of Tennessee Southern. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If privacy concerns prevent sharing individual names, we have requested a total count of these students, broken down by department.

Additionally, we are seeking information about scholarships awarded to these students. This includes details about the amount each student receives and the source of each scholarship. Furthermore, we have asked for a list of recipients associated with grants from the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Our inquiry also extends to understanding how the university safeguards its intellectual property and confidential information in relation to monitoring students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.

This request is made on behalf of SC Tennessee News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe this information is crucial for informing the public and ensuring institutional accountability. We have also requested a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating news to the public.
