Rep. Andy Ogles, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 5th district, made several statements on his social media account in support of former President Donald Trump and his leadership, particularly regarding foreign policy and eligibility for future presidential terms.
On August 18, 2025, Ogles wrote: “It’s not irony. President Trump is doing what others wouldn’t—he’s saving our country, and he requires all the time he needs to finish the job. I introduced a resolution to amend the Constitution and make him eligible to run again so the American people would have the choice”.
Later that day, he commented on Trump’s approach to international conflict: “Trump wants peace in Ukraine. He will get it.” (August 18, 2025).
The following day, Ogles reiterated his position on Trump’s foreign policy record: “Trump is not a warmonger—he’s a peacemaker. The world has fewer wars because of Donald Trump’s leadership.” (August 19, 2025).
Historically, constitutional amendments require significant legislative effort; an amendment must be proposed by two-thirds of both houses of Congress or by a national convention called for by two-thirds of state legislatures and then ratified by three-fourths of state legislatures or conventions in states.
Ogles’ resolution references current limits set by the Twenty-second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which restricts presidents to two elected terms.
During his presidency from 2017-2021, Donald Trump promoted “America First” policies and engaged in negotiations with various global leaders while facing criticism over other aspects of his administration’s foreign policy approach.
