Rep. Andy Ogles, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 5th district, has expressed concerns regarding immigration enforcement and local government actions through a series of tweets.
On May 13, 2025, Rep. Ogles highlighted the case of Franklin Oswaldo Velasquez-Reyes, a 33-year-old MS-13 gang member and Salvadoran national wanted in El Salvador for aggravated murder. According to Ogles, Velasquez-Reyes has U.S. convictions for meth possession and criminal impersonation. “Freddie O’Connell is angry @ICEgov deported him.”
In another tweet on May 14, 2025, Rep. Ogles criticized Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s actions as obstructing ICE and protecting criminals, including traffickers and a convicted child predator. He stated: “That’s not leadership—it’s lawlessness.” He also mentioned his intention to hold Nashville agencies accountable if they undermine federal enforcement.
Later that day, Rep. Ogles drew attention to content on Nashville’s official website by stating: “This is a flagrant protection of illegal aliens.” He called for an immediate investigation into the matter.
Andy Ogles was born in Nashville in 1971 and currently resides in Columbia. He holds degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and Western Kentucky University.
