Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has submitted a resolution targeting Democrats who disrupted House floor proceedings during the censure of Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Texas. The resolution seeks to remove committee assignments from those involved in the disruption.
Ogles explained his position in an interview with Fox News Digital: “We have a country to run. The failed policies of Joe Biden is why they lost the House, why they lost the Senate, why they lost the presidency. They can lick their wounds all day, but they still have to behave on the House floor.” He added, “We can disagree on issues and politics, but we’re gonna respect one another, and I’m tired of this crap.”
The proposed resolution is intended to be deemed “privileged,” which would require House leaders to address it within two legislative days. A vote could occur as early as next week when Ogles plans to discuss the matter with Speaker Mike Johnson.
During the censure vote for Green, all but 12 House Democrats opposed reprimanding him for disrupting former President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress. Ten Democrats sided with Republicans in favor of censure, while two voted “present,” including Green himself.
Before Green’s formal censure was announced, Democratic lawmakers interrupted proceedings by gathering around him and singing “We shall overcome.” This led Speaker Johnson to call a recess after several unsuccessful attempts to restore order.
Ogles’ resolution instructs the House Sergeant-at-Arms to identify members who ignored directives during the incident. Those identified would be removed from their committee roles for the remainder of the 119th Congress.
Ogles shared his intentions publicly via X: “The speaker, he’s a good man, he’s a Christian man. He has a kind heart. With grace gave them the opportunity to stop and they refuse to do so,” he stated in his interview with Fox News Digital. “So look if you wanna act like a petulant child on the House floor and you’re giving a warning and a reprimand, and you choose not to stop then actions need to be taken.”
