Congressman Andy Ogles from Tennessee's 5th District has reintroduced the Ending Chemical Abortions Act of 2025. This legislation aims to federally ban chemical abortions across the United States. Originally presented in September 2023 for the 118th Congress, this bill seeks to address concerns related to chemical abortion procedures.

Rep. Ogles expressed his concerns about chemical abortions, stating, “Chemical abortions not only end a human life but pose a serious risk to the lives of the mothers." He criticized the FDA's decision in 2021 to remove the in-person dispensing requirement, claiming it led to increased health complications and emergency room visits. Ogles added that "the Biden Administration and the FDA would put their radical pro-choice agenda ahead of the health and safety of women and girls across the country."

Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life of America, voiced her support for Rep. Ogles' efforts, saying that chemical abortion pills have a high rate of injury compared to surgical abortions. She highlighted environmental concerns regarding how chemically tainted remains are handled.

Melissa Ohden, President and CEO of The Abortion Survivors Network, also commended Rep. Ogles' leadership on this issue. She emphasized the need for compassionate care for survivors and their families and expressed commitment to working with those who support this bill.

The bill has garnered support from several cosponsors including Mary Miller (IL-15), Trent Kelly (MS-01), Mike Bost (IL-12), Ben Cline (VA-06), Josh Brecheen (OK-02), Rick Allen (GA-12), Randy Weber (TX-14), Dan Crenshaw (TX-02), Elijah Crane (AZ-02), Mark Green (TN-07), Andrew Clyde (GA-09), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Paul Gosar (AZ-09), Barry Moore (AL-02), Lauren Boebert (CO-04), Glenn Grothman (WI-06) and Mike Ezell (MS-04).

Organizations such as Students for Life Action, Heritage Action, CatholicVote, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, Abortion Survivors Network, Family Research Council, Americans United for Life, and March for Life Action are backing this initiative.
