Congressman Andy Ogles and Senator Mike Lee have introduced the Bringing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident (BOWSER) Act. The proposed legislation aims to repeal the DC Home Rule Act, thereby restoring Congressional authority over Washington, D.C.
Congressman Ogles expressed his concerns about the current state of the nation's capital, stating, "The radically progressive regime of D.C. Mayor Bowser has left our nation’s Capital in crime-ridden shambles. Washington is now known for its homicides, rapes, drug overdoses, violence, theft, and homelessness." He emphasized the need for Congress to reclaim its Constitutional authority to address these issues.
Senator Mike Lee echoed similar sentiments regarding the management of Washington, D.C., remarking on what he perceives as long-standing issues: "The corruption, crime, and incompetence of the DC government has been an embarrassment to our nation’s capital for decades."
The bill is supported by Representatives Chip Roy from Texas's 21st district, Anna Paulina Luna from Florida's 13th district, and Claudia Tenney from New York's 24th district.
